The duties of the Knox County Treasurer's office are to receive and safely keep the revenues and other public monies of the County, to invest any surplus funds, to distribute the monies collected to the proper recipients, to process employee payrolls, to keep accurate records of the employee pension fund, to coordinate insurance for property and liability coverage, to administer the employee health insurance and to disburse funds to pay the County's bills as approved and directed by the Knox County Board.
The Treasurer, as custodian of the County's money, is further directed to furnish monthly financial statements to the County Board. The Treasurer also handles the investments for the County in accordance with applicable Illinois Statutes regarding investment of public funds. The Treasurer is responsible for earning the most out of your taxpayer dollars. Interest earned is included as income in the county budget and has the effect of reducing property taxes. A County Treasurer must continually monitor investments and maintain short-term investments to have enough monies readily available to pay current operating expenses from day to day.

Duties of the Knox County Treasurer's Office staff includes:
* Bill and collect property taxes * Distribute taxes to taxing entities * Process refunds of overpaid property taxes * Publish a listing of delinquent taxes on an annual basis * Invest county funds * Receipt and deposit funds from various county departments * Process bi-weekly and monthly payroll * Publish annual financial report * Prepare pension forms * Coordinate health and life insurance and risk management for county
The Knox County Treasurer does NOT:
* Levy the property tax * Determine the market value of property * Determine the tax rate(s) * Make determinations regarding appeals of property values
