Located on first floor of courthouse Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Payments must be accompanied by detachable portion of tax bill. Only one bill will be mailed each year containing a detachable stub for each installment. Make checks payable to "Knox County Collector". When mailing payments, your cancelled check will be your receipt. Postmark is accepted prior to tax sale. Illinois law provides that all taxes not received or paid by due date shall have penalty added at the rate of 1.5% per month. This penalty is NOT prorated and becomes effective the first day following each due date. If you are not responsible for payment of the bill, please forward to new owner or return bill to collector's office. Failure to receive tax bill or receiving one late for any reason will not relieve taxpayer from paying taxes or late penalties.
If your taxes are paid through a mortgage
escrow account it is your responsibility to monitor the tax payments
being issued by the bank.

Taxes may be paid by credit card or electronic debit from your checking or from your checking electronic debit savings account with a fee to the taxpayer. "Most major credit cards" or E-check over the Internet at www.illinoisepay.com or by phone at 1-877-455-3729. A fee schedule is listed on the website. Only Discover is accepted at the Treasurer's office when paying in person. That fee schedule is available at Treasurer's office.
