Taxpayers may be eligible for tax exemptions, abatements and other assistance programs. To qualify for the residential exemptions, taxpayers must own and occupy the property as his/her principal dwelling.

EXEMPTIONS ALLOWED BY ILLINOIS STATE STATUTES For a more detailed explanation of each exemption refer to the City Assessor website.
Owner Occupied Allows a reduction up to $6,000 in equalized assessed value.
Senior Homestead Allows a reduction of $4,000 in equalized assessed value. Taxpayer must be at least 65 years of age.
Senior Assessment Freeze Freezes the taxable value. Taxpayer must be at least 65 years of age with a household income of $55,000 or less. Applications must be submitted annually to your assessor’s office.
Home Improvement Allows a reduction up to $25,000 in assessed value due to a structural improvement made to the property. Exemption is for four years upon completion of the project.

**Your tax bill reflects any exemptions you have been granted.
Taxpayers may also be eligible for the Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons Property Tax Relief and Pharmaceutical Assistance Act. You must be at least 65 years of age or a disabled person and also meet the income requirements. For more information, contact the IL Department on Aging or the local VNA office- 309-342-1152.
